Alkalinity is a measure of the acid/base levels in the water. They act as a pH buffer preventing large changes or bouncing of the pH. The total alkalinity should be between 80-150 p.p.m.; ideally 120 p.p.m. for vinyl liner or fiberglass pools. Total alkalinity should be adjusted before adjusting pH and is commonly required after heavy rain storms.
When using this product, broadcast it over the surface of your pool, preferably in the deep end. Always read labels and follow all safety instructions.
Low total alkalinity causes: the ph to wander, corrosive water, disinfectant to be ineffective.
High total alkalinity causes: cloud water, scale formation.
